I was the editor for London United’s company magazine for four years, and over that time I did a complete redesign. This included renaming the magazine from Busways Magazine to Top Deck, changing the content radically from being just about to buses to become more like a lifestyle magazine for bus drivers. I made the magazine be about the people that work at London United, not the buses they drive. With the new name and content I changed the design to be more modern and something that would represent the company in a good way at the same time as it should be interesting for the employees to read.
I was the sole editor (content and layout) and designer, wrote some articles and took some photographs. The main bulk of the articles were written by Ruxley Communications, and the main bulk of photographs were taken by them as well. I briefed the journalists and came up with themed article series such as ‘Day in the life of’ and ‘Life before the buses’.
Top Deck was my ‘baby’ at London United and I hope the magazine will continue for many years.
