A project I did during my graphic design studies in 2005. Although one of my older projects I still like the idea. The brief was to show Shakespeare’s sonnets in a contemporary context. I decided to gather his collection of sonnets as A3 posters/leaflets in a box. I called the collection ‘Decay’, as I found ‘love and decay’ were the basis of these works. Each poster would be made by a different artist and be put on a wall, or kept in this box.
I found a burned-out car in the woods, painted on parts of the sonnet and photographed it. The words made me think of young men who drives to fast, often fueled by alcohol and lost love. Sometimes it ends in tragedy.
‘How heavy do I journey on the way, when what I seek, my weary travel’s end. (…) My grief lies onward and my joy behind’.
